Easy to be Healthy. Healthy Appetizers

Cooking healthy appetizers is one of my favorite things to do in the kitchen.

You see, for most of the meal you have to put in some extra work if you want to cook food that is both healthy and tasty. You probably have to boil some rice or legumes, Sauté vegetables on low heat to preserve the vitamins, or do some other kind of elaborate preparation. Everyone knows that it is much easier to cook fast food. Preparing healthy food recipes requires patience and preparation. Although there are some recipes that you can just throw together, in general you are limited to stir fries. Everything else takes planning and preparation.

When you make a healthy appetizer, however, you get the chance to make something that is both convenient and delicious. As a matter of fact, it is easier to make appetizers healthy than bad for you. Think about it – the simplest appetizers are the ones that are good for you. For example, the vegetable tray is always a hit at parties. Everyone loves to snack on raw vegetables and dip because it gives you the chance to munch without spoiling your dinner. You can add some variety to vegetable trays by going to healthy food stores. You can add artichoke hearts, pickled vegetables, or some other unusual greens. All of these make healthy appetizers and delicious treats.

Another healthy appetizer is chicken on a stick. Most people don't think of meat when they think of healthy appetizers, but in fact chicken is lean and low-fat. If you want to switch things up a little bit, why not skewer fish and bake it in the oven, lightly coated in olive oil? This is one of the most healthy appetizers that I know of. It is better for you than the chicken because it has those healthy fish oils in it. You can sprinkle a little bit of kosher salt and some pepper on it for a tasty, healthy snack.

Many people stay away from nuts when they are cooking healthy appetizers, but in small portions, nuts are not bad for you. One of my favorite healthy appetizers is sun-dried tomatoes stuffed with nuts and a bit of goat cheese. You can toast the nuts first for that delightful baked flavor. Although the goat cheese and the nuts are a bit fattening, you don't have to use very much of either in each sun-dried tomato.
